2017 Solar Eclipse - Calgary


On August 21st, 2017 North America will experience an eclipse of the sun. The path of totality will pass across the middle of the United States. The width of the path is 113 km. The greatest duration (GD) will be 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

Calgary is about 990 kilometers from the center line of the eclipse path. Thus Calgary will experience a partial solar eclipse. It will last from 10:20 A.M. to 12:50 P.M. At 11.33 AM the maximum eclipse will occur with 77% of the sun blocked by the moon.

 

 
 

 

Calgary will experience two total eclipses of the sun this century. The first will take place on August 23rd, 2044 with totality beginning at 7:38 PM. Totality will last 1 minute and 49 seconds. The second will take place on September 14th, 2099 with totality starting at 11:25 AM and lasting 3 minutes and 27seconds.
